On Tuesday, a flight from Warsaw to Tel Aviv triggered a false hijacking alarm due to a technical error. The aircraft, operated by Bulgarian carrier Electra Airways for LOT Polish Airlines, mistakenly transmitted the emergency transponder code 7500 while flying over the Mediterranean Sea.

This incident prompted the Israeli Air Force to scramble two fighter jets to intercept the aircraft after reports indicated that communication had been lost as it approached Israeli airspace. The situation escalated quickly, leading to heightened military readiness.

In addition to the Israeli jets, Bulgaria's Defence Ministry confirmed the launch of a MiG-29 fighter to escort the aircraft safely through its airspace. The swift response from both nations highlighted the seriousness with which such alerts are treated, even when they stem from technical errors.

Fortunately, contact with the aircraft was restored, and the emergency situation was subsequently canceled during communications with air traffic control. Officials from both countries reassured the public that there was no threat of a security incident, emphasizing that there was no evidence of hijacking or external interference.

LOT Polish Airlines spokesperson Krzysztof Moczulski confirmed that the crew had reported an emergency situation, which was later resolved. The incident serves as a reminder of the complexities and potential risks associated with aviation safety protocols.

Officials at Warsaw Chopin Airport also reiterated that there was no indication of a hijacking, reinforcing the message that the situation was under control and that safety measures were effectively implemented.
