The International Cricket Council (ICC) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) have outlined the qualification process for cricket's return to the Olympic Games at LA28. This marks a significant moment for the sport, which has not been featured in the Olympics since 1900.

According to the announcement, five qualification spots for both men's and women's events will be allocated based on a combination of results from existing ICC events and the ICC T20I rankings. This approach aims to ensure a competitive field representing various regions.

As of now, India and South Africa have qualified for the men's competition, having achieved the highest placements among eligible teams from Africa. In the women's event, Australia and Great Britain (via England) have also secured their spots.

The USA, as the host nation, is eligible to qualify for both the men's and women's events, provided they are ranked within the top 15 of the ICC T20I rankings by the qualification cut-off date of December 31, 2026.

The final qualification spot for both the men's and women's competitions will be determined through the ICC Olympics Qualifier, which is scheduled to take place in 2027. This event will provide an additional opportunity for teams to secure their place at the Olympics.

With the qualification pathway now confirmed, teams will be keenly focused on their performance in upcoming ICC events and the T20I rankings to ensure they can compete on the Olympic stage.
